All items brought in for a clean are given an expert assessment and at this stage I will recommend if the piece will need re plating. If the piece has stones, for example, the settings will automatically be checked and tightened where possible. A quote will be given if further work (such as re-tipping) is recommended.
Most white gold is generally rhodium plated, this will need re polishing and re applying, normally every 12 – 18 months. The alloy i tend to use for my white gold pieces has a high content of palladium, whereas mass produced pieces have not. This gives my pieces a natural grey colour as opposed to a dull yellow. Therefore it’s not essential for all of my pieces to be rhodium plated, the natural grey look can be quite effective!
Other plating services available include black rhodium, yellow gold, rose gold and silver plating. Different thicknesses can be applied to improve the durability, i can make a personal recommendation based how the piece is worn. If you have any queries or questions related to re-plating then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
